The Humanities Association Executive

Photo of Deirdre SmithDeirdre Smith is currently Secretary of The Humanities Association. She has represented the Association on the Specialist Schools Trust Humanities Expert Panel, AQA's Humanities panel, QCA subject committees for history, geography, and citizenship, and has led QCA scrutinies of Humanities and History specifications and participated in syllabus review. She is General Inspector for Humanities for Wirral LEA and has responsibility for curriculum advice and support and monitoring of standards across the broad Humanities curriculum area. She is also Key Stage 3 Strategy Manager for Wirral.

Diane Atkinson is Head teacher of a Greenwich Primary School. She has been a Humanities Co-ordinator at school level since 1990 and has delivered local and national humanities INSET.

Margaret Burr is Co-ordinator of the Humanities Education Centre, one of a network of Development Education Centres nationally which focus on the Global Dimension in the Curriculum.

Mariea Christodoulou is Deputy Headteacher at Tideway School, East Sussex. She has been a Head of Geography and Head of Humanities Faculty. Mariea represents the interests of The Humanities Association on the Specialist Schools Trust Expert Panel for Humanities and the AQA Advisory Committee for Social Sciences.

Steve Colling's present post is as an Advisor for Blackpool LEA where, in addition to his work with both primary and secondary link schools, his subject responsibility covers the humanities area of the curriculum. With the LEA he has worked as part of the team developing the quality of teaching and learning within the Authority.

Mike Johns is a Foundation Subjects Advisor for the KS3 Strategy in Portsmouth and is also an examiner for AQA Humanities.

Thea Tomlinson is the Foundation Subjects Consultant for the KS3 Strategy Wirral. She was previously an Advisory Teacher for the Humanities.

Dave Walker is Chair of the Humanities Association. He is a member of the Solihull Inspection and Advisory Service with responsibility for history, citizenship and Humanities.
